Museum Park is filling out nicely |
The Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) has been maturing into a truly great public space since its opening in December 2013. With neighboring Museum Park's newly planted trees, both just outside the museum's entrance and also at the edge of Biscayne Boulevard, this precinct is fast becoming one of the truly spectacular cultural and green spaces in Miami
The exquisite building by Herzog & de Meuron is now in full bloom -- the vertical garden elements are now far more lush than when first seen 6 months ago. They drip delightfully into the lower level parking area, which is one of the few around that contains planters and well-draining surfaces. This ain't Switzeland; it's Miami with all of its heat, humidity and sultry ambiance.
It's surprising that the museum wasn't more overrun during its first Fourth of July party, held this past Saturday on the refreshing outdoor terrace of the building. Members got access to one of the best perches around to view the grand fireworks display on the waterfront and also enjoy jazz, hot dogs and drinks in all of Miami's subtropical splendor, along with a nice bayfront breeze.
That event alone is worth a membership.
